It’s rare for two of the best boxers in the world, Terence Crawford and Errol Spence, to fight at the same time. Both were at the peak of their careers, but the politics of boxing prevented them from facing each other. Spence was with the promotional company Top Rank, while Crawford was with the organization PBC.

Talks about a potential fight between Spence and Crawford finally collapsed at the eleventh hour last September. It was widely believed that Spence would fight Keith Thurman at 154 pounds, which would have prevented a potential meeting between the two.

The two fighters then took control of the situation. In March, Crawford reportedly called Spence and pushed the negotiations forward. It is expected to be one of the most significant boxing matches since Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather fought in 2015.

Spence, who is 33 years old, said during a media workout in Las Vegas that he knew he had to make the fight happen. He noted that the winner of the fight would be regarded as the best fighter in the sport.

Although the revenue generated by the fight between Crawford and Spence won’t be as high as those generated by the likes of Pacquiao and Mayweather, it can still be argued that the two fighters are at their peak.

On Saturday, May 12, in Las Vegas, the two will be in the ring as they fight for the vacant titles of the IBF, WBA, and WBC. If not for their respective pound-for pound supremacy, both Spence and Crawford would be considered the best in the division. ESPN ranks Spence as the fourth-best boxer in the world, while Crawford is the top-ranked fighter.

During his media workout last week, Crawford noted that the fight against Spence was happening at the right time due to the various championship belts on the line. He also said that he wanted to fight for the undisputed title.

It took a long time to get to this point, but the fight between Crawford and Spence finally comes to fruition.
