In the main event of Saturday’s ESPN+ pay-per-views event, WBA lightweight titleholder and former champion, Shawn “Vicious” Haney, will defend his title against Vasyl Lomachenko. The fight will take place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Undercard events will begin at 8 pm and prelims will be televised at 6 pm.

Since he became a champion in June 2022, 24-year-old Haney has successfully defended his title one time. He won the WBA title by defeating George Kambosos in a rematch in December. According to the sportsbook Caesars, he is the overwhelming favorite to win the fight.

During a press conference on Wednesday, Haney said that he has been calling for the fight against Lomachenko for four years. He noted that he respected the Ukrainian boxer’s commitment to his country and that it was the right decision for him to fight him.

Lomachenko, who is 35 years old and has won three fights in a row, noted that he is ready for the challenge. He lost his WBA, WBO, and IBF titles to Teofimo Lopez in October 2020.

Lomachenko said that training camp was hard, but it motivated him because it was his last chance to become an undisputed champion. He also pushed himself in every session.
