Manchester City vs Tottenham
English Premier League
Date: 19 January 2023, Thursday
Kick-off at 20:00 UK / 21:00 CET
Venue: Etihad Stadium (Manchester).

A heavyweight battle between Tottenham and Manchester City is set to take place tonight in the Premier League. It will be a huge game for both Antonio Conte and Pep Guardiola, who suffered defeats in the north London and Manchester derbies.

The two teams that were widely expected to win the Premier League title this season have not lived up to their billing. City were expected to be able to successfully defend their title, while Spurs were hoping to challenge for it.

If Manchester City lose to Tottenham, they will not be able to catch up to the leaders of the Premier League. Spurs would also be in danger of falling further behind.

Manchester City vs Tottenham Head to head :

  • Manchester City won the Premier League title last season but they lost both head to head games against Tottenham in the process.
  • Spurs have four wins in the previous six encounters with the Citizens.
  • Both teams scored only once in these six matches.

Manchester City vs Tottenham Prediction :

Despite their loss at Manchester United, Manchester City were able to improve their performance against Saints. They have also won seven of their nine home games this season. On the other hand, Spurs were not at their best against the Emirates.

Manchester City vs Tottenham Team News :

In the absence of John Stones and Ruben Dias, Pep Guardiola has stated that both men will be considered to start the match. He did not reveal the reason for De Bruyne’s absence from training on Tuesday.

With Stones and Dias waiting for their first start following the World Cup, and Laporte having recovered from a lay-off, the latter could be given a run out as “Pep roulette” begins.

Jack Grealish, Julian Alvarez, and Ilkay Gundagan are all in contention to start against Haaland. The German will look to avoid a third successive match without a goal in the top five leagues.

For Spurs, Conte has been able to rest some of his key players in recent weeks. In the North London Derby, Dejan Kulusevski came on and provided an important contribution in the second half as Spurs fought back to take a point from the match.

Although Bentancur was not risked on Sunday, he is in line to make his return at the Etihad. Lucas Moura is still not considered for selection as he nears the end of his contract with Spurs.

Harry Kane is one goal away from reaching his 200th Premier League goal for Spurs. He also has a chance of equalling Jimmy Greaves’ record for the club. The England international enjoyed his time at the Etihad last season.
