On the main card of UFC 278, fighters like Harry Hunsucker and Yanan Wu competed. To put things in context, the two entered the competition with a combined record of 1-6; neither one won. In other words, those two have no place on a Fight Night show, much less a PPV, main card.
There are no eye sores on the main card of UFC 279 matches. Every fight on the main card is a match that I’d be more than glad to see on a pay-per-view main card.
To be clear, I don’t think championship fights are necessary for a PPV to succeed. I admit it helps because champions are usually the best fighters, but it isn’t necessary. But to have each bout include competitors who consistently rank in the top 10 of their respective divisions? That isn’t a good co-main event unless there is a significant blood feud or a matchup of seasoned legends that we’ve all been waiting for. It’s difficult for me to advise shelling out $75 for the event based on what would be considered an average PPV. Not that the arguments won’t be entertaining, but I also have to be truthful.
