Manchester City vs Tottenham
England – Premier League
Date: Saturday, 19 February 2022
Kick-off at 17:30 UK/ 18:30 CET
Venue: Etihad Stadium.
When Manchester City takes on Tottenham Hotspur at the Etihad Stadium, they will be looking to extend their advantage at the top of the Premier League standings.
Matchday 26 of the Premier League begins on Saturday, and football action will continue at a breakneck pace.
Manchester City, the reigning champions and current league leaders, will host a struggling Tottenham Hotspur side at the Etihad Stadium.
Manchester City has been virtually unstoppable in the Premier League after a sluggish start.
Pep Guardiola’s side hasn’t lost a league game since late October, winning 14 of their last 15 matches to take a nine-point lead at the top.
The Cityzens crushed Norwich City 4-0 in the Premier League earlier this week and then thrashed Sporting CP 5-0 in the UEFA Champions League earlier this week, and will seek to keep the momentum going.
Tottenham have hit a snag following a promising start under new boss Antonio Conte.
The Lilywhites appeared to have developed into genuine top-four contenders under the Italian mastermind, but they have lost their last three league games against Chelsea, Southampton, and, most recently, Wolves.
The north Londoners are in eighth place in the rankings, six points behind fourth-placed Manchester United, although they have three games in hand to close the gap.
Tottenham beat Manchester City 1-0 in the reverse matchup, but a repeat performance appears unlikely coming into Saturday’s match.
Manchester City vs Tottenham Head to head :
- The Citizens had recorded eight of the past twelve overall wins.
- The hosts had won five of the previous six clashes at this ground.
- At this venue, the latest league encounter had ended in a 3-0 win for Guardiola’s men.
- It’s been six years since the guests have won at this stadium.
Manchester City vs Tottenham Prediction :
Tottenham may have defeated Manchester City the previous time these two sides met, but things are very different heading into Saturday’s match.
The Lilywhites have dropped three games in a row and were dreadful against Wolves last time out.
Meanwhile, the Cityzens are on their way to another league crown, having won 14 of their past 15 games in the campaign (D1).
Eric Dier’s return could help Tottenham tighten up the defense to some extent. However, given Manchester City’s current form, the north Londoners are unlikely to be able to stop them.
Pep Guardiola’s team is expected to win by a slim margin, according to The Hard Tackle.
Manchester City vs Tottenham Team Tews :
Kyle Walker is likely to return to Man City’s starting lineup for this encounter after serving a suspension against Sporting in the Champions League.
However, because to recent injury difficulties, Jack Grealish and Gabriel Jesus are expected to miss out, leaving Mahrez, Foden, and Sterling as the front three.
The lone change from the starting lineup from the week might be Walker for John Stones, while Ilkay Gundogan is pushing to play in midfield.
Eric Dier has returned to first-team training and is expected to start on Saturday, while Japhet Tanganga is certainly out, and Oliver Skipp is also sidelined for Tottenham.
Conte is expected to make changes to the starting lineup that faced Wolves last time out, with Emerson Royal and Sergio Reguilon perhaps coming in at wing-back.
To provide some steel to the midfield, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg might be inserted, but Lucas Moura is anticipated to keep his berth with Son Heung-min and Kane in the final third of the field, with January signing Dejan Kulusevski set to start on the bench once more.
Manchester City possible starting lineup:
Ederson; Walker, Dias, Laporte, Cancelo; De Bruyne, Rodri, Bernardo; Mahrez, Foden, Sterling
Tottenham Hotspur possible starting lineup:
Lloris; Romero, Dier, Davies; Emerson, Hojbjerg, Bentancur, Reguilon; Lucas, Kane, Son
