With all four super-middleweight belts on the line in a big undisputed battle, Canelo Alvarez and Caleb Plant attempt to put their feud to rest in the ring this weekend.
Since beating Callum Smith last December, boxing’s reigning pound-for-pound king and four-weight world champion from Mexico has held the WBA and WBC titles, retaining against Avni Yildirim before capturing the WBO gold by brutally stopping Billy Joe Saunders in Texas in May.
Canelo, who has already won world championships at light-middleweight, middleweight, and light-heavyweight during his storied career, is now just one victory away from undisputed status, with his sights set on the elusive IBF crown.
Plant has held the championship since 2019, when he defeated Jose Uzcategui and then successfully defended it three times against Mike Lee, Vincent Feigenbutz, and previous champion Caleb Truax. However, he is a huge underdog against perhaps the best boxer on the globe.
There has been a lot of animosity between these two 168-pound champions in the build-up to fight night, with punches being thrown during their tumultuous battle last month.
Plant was left with a gash beneath his right eye, but it was not bad enough to jeopardize the fight.
