The British hopeful and former WBO cruiserweight champion meet with the same belt up for grabs on Saturday night.

British cruiserweight fighter Lawrence Okolie will get back in the ring for the first time in 2021 when he takes on Polish boxer Krzysztof Glowacki for the vacant WBO cruiserweight title.

It marks a return to competitive boxing for the first time since the 28-year-old fighter took on and defeated Nikodem Jezewski in December last year, as part of the card for Anthony Joshua vs. Kubrat Pulev.

Joshua and Okolie are sparring partners and the cruiserweight will be looking to take that pedigree into the weekend’s fight, hoping to add the WBO strap to his British and European titles.

Today at 3 pm ET streaming live on DAZN internationally and also airing on Sky Sports in the United Kingdom, Lawrence Okolie faces Krzysztof Glowacki for the vacant WBO cruiserweight title, with Okolie trying to win his first world title and Glowacki trying to become a two-time champ.

We’ll have fight-by-fight results as they come in for the card, and discussion down in the comments. We’ve got dueling cards today with this and Beterbiev-Deines, and will have focus on the main events for both shows when they roll around.

Ring walks for the Okolie-Glowacki fight are expected no earlier than 6 pm ET.

Glowacki is a former WBO cruiserweight titleholder who controversially lost the belt in 2019, and as a result he was positioned as one half of the fight for the now-vacant title opposite the Rio 2016 Olympian.

Will Okolie begin his quest to dominate and unify the division before moving up to heavyweight? Or will the experienced ex-champ halt his run?

The undefeated former British, European and Continental champion, 28, was originally supposed to battle for that strap back in December on the undercard of manager Anthony Joshua’s heavyweight title defence against Kubrat Pulev at the SSE Arena, Wembley.

The one thing missing from Lawrence Okolie’s resume is a major world title around his waist. The Brit gets the opportunity on Saturday to rectify that as he meets Krzysztof Glowacki for the vacant WBO cruiserweight title at The SSE Arena in London, live on DAZN in over 200 countries worldwide.

The 28-year-old makes his 2021 debut. In his last time out, Okolie beat Nikodem Jezewski via second-round TKO in December on the Anthony Joshua vs. Kubrat Pulev undercard.

Glowacki, a WBO cruiserweight champion, looks to reclaim his championship after a 19-month layoff when he lost the title for the second time to Mairis Briedis via third-round TKO in June 2019 at the World Boxing Super Series cruiserweight semifinal.

However, Glowacki was forced to withdraw from the bout after testing positive for Covid-19 and Hackney’s Okolie instead inflicted a brutal second-round knockout on another Polish fighter in Nikodem Jezewski to take the WBO International belt.

Now he does get his chance to compete at world level in only his 16th professional fight against a two-time cruiserweight title-holder in Glowacki, who was elevated to full champion status in 2019 before losing to Mairis Briedis on his last outing in Latvia.
