Aston Villa vs Liverpool
England – Carabao Cup
Date: Tuesday, 17 December 2019
Kick-off at 19:45 UK/ 20:45 CET
Venue: Villa Park (Birmingham).

This could be Aston Villa’s big chance to progress to the semi finals as Liverpool will have the majority of their first choice eleven in Qatar for the Club World Cup.

Although Liverpool will have a very young team sent out to face Villa it should still be a fairly close game. The home side should end up winning however.

Aston Villa Team News, Updates and Facts

Aston Villa Team News

Dean Smith will likely rotate to a degree here.  Meanwhile, he’s got to account for not having the likes of center back Tyrone Mings, goalkeeper Jed Steer, or midfielder Conor Hourihane.

Aston Villa Key Man

Villa may opt to rest some, but it would be a bad idea to leave out John McGinn, such has been his level of influence this term.  He’s scored goals, he’s worked hard and controlled the tempo, and he’s assisted some as well.  He’s a massive part of the team and can certainly drive them on here.  Up front, there is a chance for Jonathan Kodija to claim some more playing time if he can show well.  He’s done well in the past in the Championship, but he has struggled in the top flight.

Aston Villa Team Form

Aston Villa have three losses, a draw, and a win in their last five matches:

2-0 loss at Sheffield United
1-4 home loss vs Leicester City
2-1 loss at Chelsea
2-2 draw at Manchester United
2-0 home win vs Newcastle

Aston Villa Predicted Starting Line up

Expected Line up: 4-3-3

Aston Villa likely XI

  • Goalkeeper:Nyland
  • Defenders:Elmohamady, Konsa, Hause, Taylor
  • Midfielders:Lansbury, Luiz, McGinn
  • Forwards:Jota, Kodija, Trezeguet

Liverpool Team News

Liverpool Team News

Neil Critchley, usually the U-23 boss, takes charge here of a young side that has very little experience at the highest level.  Curtis Jones and Neco Williams are two youngsters that have gone to Qatar with the seniors, so they will not feature.

Liverpool Key Man

There is a bit of doubt over his status here, but there is hope that Rhian Brewster will be able to play a role here.  The young Englishman has been waiting his turn, and he could get it here in this match as he seeks to show why he is so heavily touted as a player to watch.  Typically the Reds flood forward with their full backs, and that now leaves a chance for Yasser Larouci to take over the mantle from Andy Robertson.  He had a great preseason and could be poised to stand out here.
